A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to physician inquiries regarding firearm ownership.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 159, Occupations Code, is amended by
adding Section 159.011 to read as follows:
Sec. 159.011. INQUIRY INTO FIREARM OWNERSHIP. A physician
who requests that a patient or a parent or guardian of a patient
provide information regarding firearm ownership by the patient,
parent, or guardian shall disclose to the patient, parent, or
guardian:
(1) why the information is requested; and
(2) to whom the information will be provided and for
what purpose, if the physician is requesting the information other
than for the physician's own patient records.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
