6	4		AN ACT
7	5		relating to increasing the amount of burial benefits required to be
8	6		paid by an insurance carrier under the workers' compensation
9	7		system.
10	8		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
11	9		SECTION 1. Section 408.186(a), Labor Code, is amended to
12	10		read as follows:
13	11		(a) If the death of an employee results from a compensable
14	12		injury, the insurance carrier shall pay to the person who incurred
15	13		liability for the costs of burial the lesser of:
16	14		(1) the actual costs incurred for reasonable burial
17	15		expenses; or
18	16		(2) $10,000 [$6,000].
19	17		SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to a
20	18		claim for workers' compensation burial benefits based on a
21	19		compensable injury that occurs on or after the effective date of
22	20		this Act. A claim based on a compensable injury that occurs before
23	21		the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on
24	22		the date the compensable injury occurred, and the former law is
25	23		continued in effect for that purpose.
26	24		SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
