55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to general officers within the state military department.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 437.058, Government Code, is amended by
1010 amending Subsections (a), (d), (e), and (f) and adding Subsection
1111 (d-1) to read as follows:
1212 (a) The adjutant general may appoint as general officers one
1313 or more [an] assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
1414 army, an assistant deputy adjutant general for air, an assistant
1515 [deputy] adjutant general for homeland security, and an assistant
1616 [deputy] adjutant general for domestic operations [government
1717 affairs].
1818 (d) The assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
1919 [the] army shall support the deputy adjutant general for [the]
2020 army, represent the command staff at events as needed, and manage
2121 the activities assigned by the adjutant general or the deputy
2222 adjutant general for [the] army.
2323 (d-1) The assistant deputy adjutant general for air shall
2424 support the deputy adjutant general for air, represent the command
2525 staff at events as needed, and manage the activities assigned by the
2626 adjutant general or the deputy adjutant general for air.
2727 (e) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for homeland
2828 security [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard], as
2929 determined by the adjutant general, shall:
3030 (1) coordinate with other state agencies in matters
3131 pertaining to homeland security [to ensure state emergency services
3232 are provided and organized to support the state operations center];
3333 and
3434 (2) coordinate homeland security actions taken by the
3535 National Guard Bureau in this state.
3636 (f) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for domestic
3737 operations [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard, as
3838 determined by the adjutant general,] shall:
3939 (1) coordinate activities of the Texas military forces
4040 with the National Guard Bureau to ensure state emergency services
4141 are provided and organized to support the state operations center;
4242 and
4343 (2) coordinate with other federal, state, and local
4444 jurisdictions and officials [funding and coordination with other
4545 federal, state, and local jurisdictions and officials in matters
4646 relating to the operations of the Texas military forces occurring
4747 in the assistant deputy adjutant general's jurisdiction or
4848 oversight].
4949 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
