64 AN ACT
75 relating to the College Credit for Heroes program.
86 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
97 SECTION 1. Section 302.0031, Labor Code, is amended by
108 amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (g) to read as
119 follows:
1210 (b) The commission shall establish and administer the
1311 College Credit for Heroes [demonstration] program to identify,
1412 develop, and support methods to maximize academic or workforce
1513 education credit awarded by institutions of higher education to
1614 veterans and military servicemembers for military experience,
1715 education, and training obtained during military service in order
1816 to expedite the entry of veterans and military servicemembers into
1917 the workforce.
2018 (g) Not later than November 1 of each year, the commission,
2119 after consultation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
2220 Board, shall report to the legislature and the governor on:
2321 (1) the results of any grants awarded under this
2422 section;
2523 (2) the best practices for veterans and military
2624 servicemembers to achieve maximum academic or workforce education
2725 credit at institutions of higher education for military experience,
2826 education, and training obtained during military service;
2927 (3) measures needed to facilitate the award of
3028 academic or workforce education credit by institutions of higher
3129 education for military experience, education, and training
3230 obtained during military service; and
3331 (4) other related measures needed to facilitate the
3432 entry of trained, qualified veterans and military servicemembers
3533 into the workforce.
3634 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3735 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3836 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3937 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4038 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
