| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 502.401(a), Transportation Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) The commissioners court of a county by order may impose | |
| 13 | 13 | an additional fee, not to exceed $20 [$10], for registering a | |
| 14 | 14 | vehicle in the county. | |
| 15 | 15 | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | |
| 16 | 16 | the optional county fee for a registration period beginning on or | |
| 17 | 17 | after the effective date of this Act. An optional county fee for a | |
| 18 | 18 | registration period beginning before the effective date of this Act | |
| 19 | 19 | is governed by the law in effect when the registration period began, | |
| 20 | 20 | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
