55 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, Our nation is fortunate to have sons and daughters
77 whose love of country is such that they are willing to risk their
88 lives in its defense, and they are truly deserving of the utmost
99 respect and gratitude; and
1010 WHEREAS, Legions of Americans stepped forward to serve their
1111 nation in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, and their unwavering
1212 resolve to combat terrorism in the Global War on Terror helped
1313 ensure the safety of millions of people back home and around the
1414 globe; and
1515 WHEREAS, Almost 7,000 United States service members,
1616 including 600 Texans, have died in the war to date, and countless
1717 more American troops have been wounded; sharing in those sacrifices
1818 have been their families and friends; and
1919 WHEREAS, Under Chapter 443, Government Code, and rules of the
2020 State Preservation Board, a portion of the north Capitol grounds is
2121 available for new monuments, subject to legislative approval,
2222 specified procedural requirements, the provision of funding from
2323 private donors, conformity to certain size and design limitations
2424 and parameters, and completion on a timely basis; and
2525 WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Legislature find that a
2626 commemorative monument recognizing those Texans who served during
2727 the Global War on Terror would be a worthy addition to the Capitol
2828 grounds; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
3030 hereby authorize the State Preservation Board, subject to state law
3131 and rules of the board, to approve and permit the construction of a
3232 monument at the state Capitol Complex, at a site outside the
3333 historic Capitol grounds, honoring Texans who served during the
3434 Global War on Terror as part of the United States armed forces and
3535 their families; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
3737 official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
3838 State Preservation Board.
