87 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
98 SECTION 1. Section 23, Article IV, Texas Constitution, is
109 amended to read as follows:
1110 Sec. 23. The Comptroller of Public Accounts, the
1211 Commissioner of the General Land Office, the Attorney General, and
1312 any statutory State officer who is elected by the electorate of
1413 Texas at large, unless a term of office is otherwise specifically
1514 provided in this Constitution, shall each hold office for the term
1615 of four years. Each shall receive an annual salary in an amount to
1716 be fixed by the Legislature[; reside at the Capital of the State
1817 during his continuance in office,] and perform such duties as are or
1918 may be required by law. They and the Secretary of State shall not
2019 receive to their own use any fees, costs or perquisites of office.
2120 All fees that may be payable by law for any service performed by any
2221 officer specified in this section or in the officer's [his] office,
2322 shall be paid, when received, into the State Treasury.
2423 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2524 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
2625 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
2726 proposition: "The constitutional amendment repealing the
2827 requirement that state officers elected by voters statewide reside
2928 in the state capital."
