| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Rick Diaz, who is retiring from KRGV-TV Channel 5 in |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Rio Grande Valley after nearly 50 years in broadcast |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | journalism; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz became the news director at KRGV in 1976; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | he had formerly served as a photographer, a reporter, and an |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | anchor; throughout his exemplary career, he has carried the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | people of the Valley in his heart, mind, and soul, and he had |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | guided the station with the highest level of integrity; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A truly distinguished leader in his field, he was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | invited to the White House on several occasions and was twice |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | recognized by President Reagan for the work the television |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | station did in the community; his love for family and the Rio |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Grande Valley kept him in his home state when he had offers to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | move to larger markets; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz announced his retirement as news director |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in 1998, but he was drawn back to the station he loved two years |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | later to serve again as a news anchor; in this role, he also was a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | mentor and counselor to many young people in the field; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This beloved member of the community has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | maintained a standard of excellence in broadcast journalism that |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | serves as an example to others, and his presence at KRGV will be |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | greatly missed by his colleagues and by residents throughout the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Valley; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Rick Diaz for his exceptional |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | contributions to KRGV-TV Channel 5 and to the people of the Rio |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Grande Valley and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | be it further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
