SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1004
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Rick Diaz, who is retiring from KRGV-TV Channel 5 in
the Rio Grande Valley after nearly 50 years in broadcast
journalism; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz became the news director at KRGV in 1976;
he had formerly served as a photographer, a reporter, and an
anchor; throughout his exemplary career, he has carried the
people of the Valley in his heart, mind, and soul, and he had
guided the station with the highest level of integrity; and
WHEREAS, A truly distinguished leader in his field, he was
invited to the White House on several occasions and was twice
recognized by President Reagan for the work the television
station did in the community; his love for family and the Rio
Grande Valley kept him in his home state when he had offers to
move to larger markets; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Diaz announced his retirement as news director
in 1998, but he was drawn back to the station he loved two years
later to serve again as a news anchor; in this role, he also was a
mentor and counselor to many young people in the field; and
WHEREAS, This beloved member of the community has
maintained a standard of excellence in broadcast journalism that
serves as an example to others, and his presence at KRGV will be
greatly missed by his colleagues and by residents throughout the
Valley; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend Rick Diaz for his exceptional
contributions to KRGV-TV Channel 5 and to the people of the Rio
Grande Valley and extend to him best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
