4	4	Gilberto Garza
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Judge Gilberto Garza, who died June 26,
7	7	2014; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Gilberto Garza was born in Weslaco to Sotero and
9	9	Herlinda Garza; he served the nation with distinction during
10	10	World War II as a demolition specialist with the United States
11	11	Army in France and Germany; he answered his country's call again
12	12	during the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force;
13	13	and
14	14	WHEREAS, He was a businessman and rancher for many years,
15	15	but he was best known in his Weslaco community for his work in the
16	16	justice system; he served for 18 years as the justice of the peace
17	17	for Precinct 1, Place 2, and he was a municipal court judge for 17
18	18	years; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Judge Garza was also active in a variety of civic
20	20	organizations, including the Lions Club, the Weslaco Chamber of
21	21	Commerce, the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans
22	22	of Foreign Wars, and the Catholic War Veterans; he was a member of
23	23	Saint Martin De Porres Catholic Church; and
24	24	WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
25	25	gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
26	26	counsel will not be forgotten; and
27	27	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
28	28	and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
29	29	his family and friends; now, therefore, be it
30	30	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
31	31	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
32	32	family of Judge Gilberto Garza; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
35	35	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
36	36	memory of Gilberto Garza.
