| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of Austin in mourning the loss of Maria Gonzalez Kennedy, who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | died May 14, 2015, at the age of 86; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Maria Gonzalez was born on September 29, 1928, in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Harlingen; she became a longtime Austin resident who was admired |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | for her many contributions to the city; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1957, she and her husband, Abraham Kennedy, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | opened El Gallo restaurant on South Congress Avenue; she was a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | proud owner who greeted her customers with a smile, and the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | restaurant became a trademark venue in the vibrant South Austin |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | neighborhood; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Kennedy was a distinguished leader in the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community who contributed to the establishment of Austin |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Community College and was active with the Mexican-American |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Chamber of Commerce, the League of United Latin American |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Citizens, and numerous other civic organizations; she was a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | parishioner of Saint Ignatius Martyr Church; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | great-grandmother, Maria Kennedy was beloved by many, and she |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | will long be remembered with admiration and respect by all who |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | family of Maria Gonzalez Kennedy; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | memory of Maria Kennedy. |
