| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Johnny Smecca, who has been named the Galvestonian of |

| 4 | 4 | | the Year for 2014; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Johnny Smecca is co-owner and managing partner of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Galveston Restaurant Group, a company which operates seven |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | different area restaurants; the company was created after Johnny |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Smecca established its first restaurant, Mario's Seawall Italian |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Restaurant; the group first opened Saltwater Grill and now also |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | owns and operates Papa's Pizza, Sky Bar and Sushi, Little Daddy's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Gumbo Bar, Nonno Tony's World Kitchen, and The Gumbo Diner; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the Galveston Restaurant Group |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | has played a vital role in supporting countless community |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | organizations, institutions, and charitable initiatives, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | including the Galveston Independent School District, the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Galveston Children's Museum, Saint Vincent's House, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Galveston Humane Society, and the Grand Opera House; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smecca has been instrumental in the growth and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | prosperity of the community through his work as a member of the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Galveston City Council and through his service with such |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | organizations as the Galveston Historical Foundation, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Galveston Housing Finance Corporation, and the Galveston |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Economic Development Corporation; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smecca's personal honors include the Sam |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Walton Business Community Leader Award, the Christie Mitchell |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Beachcomber Award, and Kiwanian of the Year; he is truly |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | deserving of recognition for his outstanding achievements and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | his many contributions to his community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Johnny Smecca on |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | his selection as Galvestonian of the Year for 2014 and best |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | wishes to him for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be |
