| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Woman's Club of Beaumont, which is celebrating 120 |

| 4 | 4 | | years of service in the community; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Woman's Club of Beaumont was founded on |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | January 18, 1895, to help promote and develop area libraries and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | cultural collections and to support art, education, literature, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and music in the community; it is the oldest local organization |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in Beaumont; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The club was named the Women's Reading Club and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | became affiliated with the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs; it |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | was chartered by the State of Texas in 1905, and the name was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | officially changed to the Woman's Club of Beaumont, Texas, in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1927; the club is also affiliated with the General Federation of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Women's Clubs; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The historic home, which is the club's gathering |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | place, was severely damaged during Hurricanes Rita and Ike and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | was reopened in 2010 after extensive repair and renovations; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Though the club has evolved over the years, the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | members have remained committed to its founding principles and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | have continued to work toward the betterment of the Beaumont |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Woman's Club of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Beaumont for their dedication to the community and extend sincere |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | best wishes to all on the occasion of the club's 120th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | anniversary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
