                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 159
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Woman's Club of Beaumont, which is celebrating 120
 years of service in the community; and
 WHEREAS, The Woman's Club of Beaumont was founded on
 January 18, 1895, to help promote and develop area libraries and
 cultural collections and to support art, education, literature,
 and music in the community; it is the oldest local organization
 in Beaumont; and
 WHEREAS, The club was named the Women's Reading Club and
 became affiliated with the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs; it
 was chartered by the State of Texas in 1905, and the name was
 officially changed to the Woman's Club of Beaumont, Texas, in
 1927; the club is also affiliated with the General Federation of
 Women's Clubs; and
 WHEREAS, The historic home, which is the club's gathering
 place, was severely damaged during Hurricanes Rita and Ike and
 was reopened in 2010 after extensive repair and renovations; and
 WHEREAS, Though the club has evolved over the years, the
 members have remained committed to its founding principles and
 have continued to work toward the betterment of the Beaumont
 community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Woman's Club of
 Beaumont for their dedication to the community and extend sincere
 best wishes to all on the occasion of the club's 120th
 anniversary; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
