| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to welcome |

| 3 | 3 | | residents of Hudspeth, Culberson, Presidio, and Jeff Davis Counties |

| 4 | 4 | | on the occasion of West Texas Counties Day at the State Capitol; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This expansive region of the Lone Star State is |

| 6 | 6 | | known for its colorful history and breathtaking landscapes; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | carefully preserved sites throughout the area tell the stories of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | ancient inhabitants and of early homesteaders who settled in the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | area in the years of cattle roads and steam trains; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Its history tells of great struggles and of brave |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | frontier men and women who helped forge the beginnings of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | region's agricultural success; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The extraordinary terrain of Hudspeth, Culberson, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Presidio, and Jeff Davis Counties varies from grassy plains to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | volcanic cliffs and canyons and includes the state's tallest |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | mountain and highest waterfall; the area's scenic vistas include |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the vast Chihuahuan Desert and two majestic mountain ranges, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy many opportunities for hiking, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | birding, hunting, and horseback riding; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The region is also home to a world-renowned |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | cultural arts community in Marfa and to the McDonald Observatory |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of The University of Texas at Austin, which houses one of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | largest optical telescopes in the world; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Hudspeth, Culberson, Presidio, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and Jeff Davis Counties are blessed with the opportunity to live |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | in a striking landscape with a rich history; they share a deep |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | appreciation for their beloved region of West Texas, and they can |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | indeed take pride in their unique contributions to the heritage |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and culture of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby recognize West Texas Counties Day at the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | wishes for a memorable stay in Austin; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 35 | 35 | | the citizens of Hudspeth, Culberson, Presidio, and Jeff Davis |
