                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 179
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join
 the Build a Better Texas Coalition and the Workers Defense Project
 in observing February 25, 2015, as the Day of the Fallen; and
 WHEREAS, On the Day of the Fallen, groups are gathering in
 Austin to honor the men and women who have died in
 construction-related accidents and to promote workplace safety
 in the construction industry; and
 WHEREAS, The Build a Better Texas Coalition is a group of
 businesses, community and faith-based organizations, and other
 individuals dedicated to fostering workplace safety; they support
 such measures as adequate safety training and rest breaks for
 construction workers and workers' compensation insurance; and
 WHEREAS, The construction industry plays a significant
 role in the Texas economy, with nearly one million Texans working
 in the field, and workplace safety has become a serious issue
 throughout the state; more construction workers die in Texas than
 in any other state, and one in every five construction workers in
 Texas suffers an injury that requires medical attention; and
 WHEREAS, A strong and sustainable construction industry is
 essential to the economic prosperity of our state; it is truly
 fitting that efforts be made to uphold the highest of standards
 in workplace safety in Texas; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby join Texans across the state in observing
 February 25, 2015, as the Day of the Fallen, in memory of the
 thousands who have died in construction-related accidents; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
