11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 235
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join San Antonio's Vietnamese American community and Texans
44 across the state in celebrating the Vietnamese New Year; and
55 WHEREAS, The Vietnamese New Year, known in Vietnamese as
66 Tet, is a time for family and friends to come together to reflect
77 on the past and to celebrate new beginnings; each year in the
88 Vietnamese calendar is represented by one of 12 animals or
99 mythical creatures, and 2015 is the Year of the Goat; and
1010 WHEREAS, Like other immigrant groups before them,
1111 Vietnamese people came to this country in search of freedom and
1212 opportunity, and also like other immigrant groups, they have
1313 contributed immeasurably to the fabric of life in communities
1414 across the nation; and
1515 WHEREAS, The celebration of the Vietnamese New Year offers
1616 an opportunity for Texans from all walks of life to learn about
1717 the unique cultural heritage of the Vietnamese American
1818 community in our state; now, therefore, be it
1919 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2020 Legislature, hereby commend Vietnamese Americans on their many
2121 contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and
2222 extend to them best wishes for a memorable Vietnamese New Year
2323 celebration; and, be it further
2424 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2525 honor of this special occasion.
