1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 235
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	join San Antonio's Vietnamese American community and Texans
4	4	across the state in celebrating the Vietnamese New Year; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The Vietnamese New Year, known in Vietnamese as
6	6	Tet, is a time for family and friends to come together to reflect
7	7	on the past and to celebrate new beginnings; each year in the
8	8	Vietnamese calendar is represented by one of 12 animals or
9	9	mythical creatures, and 2015 is the Year of the Goat; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Like other immigrant groups before them,
11	11	Vietnamese people came to this country in search of freedom and
12	12	opportunity, and also like other immigrant groups, they have
13	13	contributed immeasurably to the fabric of life in communities
14	14	across the nation; and
15	15	WHEREAS, The celebration of the Vietnamese New Year offers
16	16	an opportunity for Texans from all walks of life to learn about
17	17	the unique cultural heritage of the Vietnamese American
18	18	community in our state; now, therefore, be it
19	19	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
20	20	Legislature, hereby commend Vietnamese Americans on their many
21	21	contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and
22	22	extend to them best wishes for a memorable Vietnamese New Year
23	23	celebration; and, be it further
24	24	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
25	25	honor of this special occasion.
