SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 235 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join San Antonio's Vietnamese American community and Texans across the state in celebrating the Vietnamese New Year; and WHEREAS, The Vietnamese New Year, known in Vietnamese as Tet, is a time for family and friends to come together to reflect on the past and to celebrate new beginnings; each year in the Vietnamese calendar is represented by one of 12 animals or mythical creatures, and 2015 is the Year of the Goat; and WHEREAS, Like other immigrant groups before them, Vietnamese people came to this country in search of freedom and opportunity, and also like other immigrant groups, they have contributed immeasurably to the fabric of life in communities across the nation; and WHEREAS, The celebration of the Vietnamese New Year offers an opportunity for Texans from all walks of life to learn about the unique cultural heritage of the Vietnamese American community in our state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend Vietnamese Americans on their many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Vietnamese New Year celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
