| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Ezra Roy for his exemplary personal and artistic |

| 4 | 4 | | accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ezra Roy was born on June 26, 1988, in Houston; |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | his early interest in art helped him thrive as a young boy with |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Down syndrome; he graduated from Jack Yates High School in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 2008, and he is a recent honors graduate of Texas Southern |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | University; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Ezra studies artistic concepts associated with |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | various combinations of media, and he is known for his keen |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | penchant for color and his notable talent for both realism and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | abstraction; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, He began showing his art during high school, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | his work has since been exhibited at the Houston City Hall and at |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Five-A Exhibitions; some of his |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | impressive works grace the walls of art collectors; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ezra Roy has turned disabling barriers into |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | positive visions, and he has become the first professional artist |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in the United States with Down syndrome to successfully enter the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | mainstream of visual fine art; he is an exceptionally talented |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | artist who is an inspiration to many; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Ezra Roy as a treasured citizen of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | our state and extend to him best wishes in all his future artistic |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
