11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 287
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Ezra Roy for his exemplary personal and artistic
44 accomplishments; and
55 WHEREAS, Ezra Roy was born on June 26, 1988, in Houston;
66 his early interest in art helped him thrive as a young boy with
77 Down syndrome; he graduated from Jack Yates High School in
88 2008, and he is a recent honors graduate of Texas Southern
99 University; and
1010 WHEREAS, Ezra studies artistic concepts associated with
1111 various combinations of media, and he is known for his keen
1212 penchant for color and his notable talent for both realism and
1313 abstraction; and
1414 WHEREAS, He began showing his art during high school, and
1515 his work has since been exhibited at the Houston City Hall and at
1616 the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Five-A Exhibitions; some of his
1717 impressive works grace the walls of art collectors; and
1818 WHEREAS, Ezra Roy has turned disabling barriers into
1919 positive visions, and he has become the first professional artist
2020 in the United States with Down syndrome to successfully enter the
2121 mainstream of visual fine art; he is an exceptionally talented
2222 artist who is an inspiration to many; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2424 Legislature, hereby recognize Ezra Roy as a treasured citizen of
2525 our state and extend to him best wishes in all his future artistic
2626 endeavors; and, be it further
2727 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2828 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
