SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 287 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ezra Roy for his exemplary personal and artistic accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Ezra Roy was born on June 26, 1988, in Houston; his early interest in art helped him thrive as a young boy with Down syndrome; he graduated from Jack Yates High School in 2008, and he is a recent honors graduate of Texas Southern University; and WHEREAS, Ezra studies artistic concepts associated with various combinations of media, and he is known for his keen penchant for color and his notable talent for both realism and abstraction; and WHEREAS, He began showing his art during high school, and his work has since been exhibited at the Houston City Hall and at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Five-A Exhibitions; some of his impressive works grace the walls of art collectors; and WHEREAS, Ezra Roy has turned disabling barriers into positive visions, and he has become the first professional artist in the United States with Down syndrome to successfully enter the mainstream of visual fine art; he is an exceptionally talented artist who is an inspiration to many; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby recognize Ezra Roy as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to him best wishes in all his future artistic endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
