| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church on the grand |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of its mortgage burning celebration, which is taking |

| 5 | 5 | | place March 14, 2015; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church was the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | first black Seventh-Day Adventist Church established in Houston, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and it has been serving the Houston area for more than 75 years; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the church has ministered |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | faithfully to the spiritual and temporal needs of countless |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | individuals; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | pastors and the leadership of its current pastor, Clarence |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Williams III, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | role in the life of the community; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | become an invaluable source of strength for its members during |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | times of hardship and bereavement and a place of fellowship |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | during times of abundance and celebration; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Berean Houston Mortgage Burning Celebration |

| 21 | 21 | | is an opportunity to reflect on the church's rich history and on |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the ministries it has established to the benefit of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of the Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church on the joyous occasion |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of their mortgage burning celebration; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
