4	4	Keith Everest Friend
5	5	WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
6	6	temper the profound loss felt by the loved ones of Keith Everest
7	7	Friend of Grapevine, who passed away on November 8, 2014, at the
8	8	age of 48; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Born to Pat and Julie Friend on September 8, 1966,
10	10	Keith Friend graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Hurst and
11	11	went on to attend Texas State University in San Marcos; he
12	12	married Lori, his high school sweetheart, on July 8, 1989, and
13	13	they settled in Grapevine, where they raised their children,
14	14	Amber and Andrew; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Mr. Friend was a longtime employee of IBM; he was
16	16	also an active volunteer scout leader and a committee member with
17	17	Boy Scout Troop 905 in Colleyville, and he was a former den leader
18	18	for Cub Scout Pack 817 in Grapevine; he encouraged his young
19	19	charges to participate in all aspects of the Boy Scout life and
20	20	motivated them to set and achieve personal goals, and through his
21	21	example, he showed them how to be a caring friend and a dedicated
22	22	leader; even as he battled cancer during the last six and a half
23	23	years of his life, he maintained a positive attitude and
24	24	continued to be involved in scouting activities; and
25	25	WHEREAS, In addition to his volunteer work with the Boy
26	26	Scouts, Mr. Friend enjoyed playing the guitar and sharing his
27	27	musical knowledge with beginning players; he also worked with the
28	28	youth at his church for many years, and he served as a
29	29	compassionate mentor to fellow cancer patients, lending them a
30	30	sympathetic ear and reminding them that they were not alone in
31	31	their struggles; he was unfailingly generous with his time, but
32	32	most of all, he treasured the moments he spent with his loved
33	33	ones, whose days were made brighter by his warmth, humor, and
34	34	affection; and
35	35	WHEREAS, Although his days on this earth were far too few,
36	36	Keith Friend left an indelible mark on the lives of many, and his
37	37	devotion to his family and to the youth of his community will
38	38	forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now,
39	39	therefore, be it
40	40	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
41	41	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Keith Everest
42	42	Friend and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
43	43	family: his wife, Lori Friend; his children, Amber and Andrew
44	44	Friend; his parents, Julie Mason and Pat Friend; his sister,
45	45	Elaine Christine Lincoln; and his other relatives, his scout
46	46	family, and all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
48	48	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
49	49	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
50	50	memory of Keith Friend.
