55 WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
66 temper the profound loss felt by the loved ones of Keith Everest
77 Friend of Grapevine, who passed away on November 8, 2014, at the
88 age of 48; and
99 WHEREAS, Born to Pat and Julie Friend on September 8, 1966,
1010 Keith Friend graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Hurst and
1111 went on to attend Texas State University in San Marcos; he
1212 married Lori, his high school sweetheart, on July 8, 1989, and
1313 they settled in Grapevine, where they raised their children,
1414 Amber and Andrew; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Friend was a longtime employee of IBM; he was
1616 also an active volunteer scout leader and a committee member with
1717 Boy Scout Troop 905 in Colleyville, and he was a former den leader
1818 for Cub Scout Pack 817 in Grapevine; he encouraged his young
1919 charges to participate in all aspects of the Boy Scout life and
2020 motivated them to set and achieve personal goals, and through his
2121 example, he showed them how to be a caring friend and a dedicated
2222 leader; even as he battled cancer during the last six and a half
2323 years of his life, he maintained a positive attitude and
2424 continued to be involved in scouting activities; and
2525 WHEREAS, In addition to his volunteer work with the Boy
2626 Scouts, Mr. Friend enjoyed playing the guitar and sharing his
2727 musical knowledge with beginning players; he also worked with the
2828 youth at his church for many years, and he served as a
2929 compassionate mentor to fellow cancer patients, lending them a
3030 sympathetic ear and reminding them that they were not alone in
3131 their struggles; he was unfailingly generous with his time, but
3232 most of all, he treasured the moments he spent with his loved
3333 ones, whose days were made brighter by his warmth, humor, and
3434 affection; and
3535 WHEREAS, Although his days on this earth were far too few,
3636 Keith Friend left an indelible mark on the lives of many, and his
3737 devotion to his family and to the youth of his community will
3838 forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now,
3939 therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
4141 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Keith Everest
4242 Friend and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
4343 family: his wife, Lori Friend; his children, Amber and Andrew
4444 Friend; his parents, Julie Mason and Pat Friend; his sister,
4545 Elaine Christine Lincoln; and his other relatives, his scout
4646 family, and all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4848 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4949 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5050 memory of Keith Friend.
