2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The 100 Club, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is |

3 | 3 | | celebrating its 62nd continuous year of service to law |
---|
4 | 4 | | enforcement and firefighting agencies; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The 100 Club is a 30,600-member nonprofit |
---|
6 | 6 | | organization whose services primarily involve providing benefits |
---|
7 | 7 | | to the dependents of officers and firefighters killed or |
---|
8 | 8 | | catastrophically injured in the line of duty; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The organization provides this support to law |
---|
10 | 10 | | enforcement officers and firefighters in 31 counties in |
---|
11 | 11 | | southeast Texas and also to Texas Department of Public Safety and |
---|
12 | 12 | | Texas Parks and Wildlife Department commissioned officers, Texas |
---|
13 | 13 | | Department of Criminal Justice institutional personnel, and |
---|
14 | 14 | | agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission who are killed |
---|
15 | 15 | | in the line of duty anywhere in the State of Texas; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to providing line-of-duty death |
---|
17 | 17 | | benefits, The 100 Club has for over 30 years had a proactive |
---|
18 | 18 | | program of providing life-protecting equipment for law |
---|
19 | 19 | | enforcement agencies in its primary coverage area in hopes of |
---|
20 | 20 | | preventing the loss of an officer's life; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The 100 Club also has an educational mission, and |
---|
22 | 22 | | it has awarded numerous scholarships to law enforcement officers |
---|
23 | 23 | | studying at three state-supported universities; more than 700 |
---|
24 | 24 | | degrees have been awarded to participants in the club's |
---|
25 | 25 | | educational programs; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, The 100 Club has given over |
---|
27 | 27 | | $42.7 million in support of its mission; this fine organization |
---|
28 | 28 | | istrulyworthyofcommendationforitsongoingeffortsonbehalf |
---|
29 | 29 | | of those who risk their lives to serve the public; now, |
---|
30 | 30 | | therefore, be it |

31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby acknowledge the selfless and dedicated |
---|
33 | 33 | | efforts of The 100 Club in its support of law enforcement |
---|
34 | 34 | | personnel and firefighters, especially the support given to the |
---|
35 | 35 | | dependents of those heroes who lost their lives in the line of |
---|
36 | 36 | | duty; and, be it further |
