| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jack Ohlrich and Hal Herbelin Jr., who were recently |

| 4 | 4 | | honored with the Outstanding Range Management Award by the Texas |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Section Society for Range Management; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Section recognizes one ranch |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | that has adopted the highest standards and implemented the most |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | effective practices for sustainable range management; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Ohlrich ranch has been operating as a family |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | business west of New Braunfels since the 1850s; Jack Ohlrich is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the owner of the ranch, and Hal Herbelin Jr. serves as ranch |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | operator; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ohlrich and Mr. Herbelin were recognized for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | outstanding range-management methods that include the limiting |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and rotating of livestock grazing, the careful management of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Ashe juniper population, and the use of prescribed burning |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | methods to improve forage quality for both livestock and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | wildlife; their practices have helped plant life thrive even |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | during the current drought; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Texas is known for its agricultural resources and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | natural beauty, and by maintaining high standards of land |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | management and sustainability, the leaders of the Ohlrich ranch |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | are helping to preserve the timeless and unique character of the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Jack Ohlrich and Hal Herbelin Jr. for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their stewardship of Texas lands and congratulate them on receiving |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Outstanding Range Management Award; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
