SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Jack Ohlrich and Hal Herbelin Jr., who were recently honored with the Outstanding Range Management Award by the Texas Section Society for Range Management; and WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Section recognizes one ranch that has adopted the highest standards and implemented the most effective practices for sustainable range management; and WHEREAS, The Ohlrich ranch has been operating as a family business west of New Braunfels since the 1850s; Jack Ohlrich is the owner of the ranch, and Hal Herbelin Jr. serves as ranch operator; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ohlrich and Mr. Herbelin were recognized for outstanding range-management methods that include the limiting and rotating of livestock grazing, the careful management of the Ashe juniper population, and the use of prescribed burning methods to improve forage quality for both livestock and wildlife; their practices have helped plant life thrive even during the current drought; and WHEREAS, Texas is known for its agricultural resources and natural beauty, and by maintaining high standards of land management and sustainability, the leaders of the Ohlrich ranch are helping to preserve the timeless and unique character of the state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend Jack Ohlrich and Hal Herbelin Jr. for their stewardship of Texas lands and congratulate them on receiving the Outstanding Range Management Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
