| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Diocese of Tyler for its many contributions to the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | people of Northeast Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Diocese of Tyler was established in 1986 by an |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | apostolic bull issued by Pope John Paul II; its 33 counties are |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | served by 51 parishes, 19 missions, and three pastoral centers; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, the diocese has offered |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | invaluable support and spiritual guidance to parishioners; under |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the exemplary leadership of Bishop Joseph E. Strickland since |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 2012, its 79 active priests and 102 permanent deacons have |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | continued to play an integral role in the life of the community; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Attending to the spiritual, physical, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | educational needs of citizens regardless of their religious |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | affiliation, the diocese supports four Catholic hospitals and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | eight centers for social services, and its seven Catholic schools |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | work diligently to fully develop each student's moral, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | intellectual, social, and physical gifts; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The Diocese of Tyler has contributed greatly to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the fabric of life in the region, and it is fitting that it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Diocese of Tyler on its commitment |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to serving others and extend to its clergy and parishioners best |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the diocese as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
