                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 417
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Diocese of Tyler for its many contributions to the
 people of Northeast Texas; and
 WHEREAS, The Diocese of Tyler was established in 1986 by an
 apostolic bull issued by Pope John Paul II; its 33 counties are
 served by 51 parishes, 19 missions, and three pastoral centers; and
 WHEREAS, Since its founding, the diocese has offered
 invaluable support and spiritual guidance to parishioners; under
 the exemplary leadership of Bishop Joseph E. Strickland since
 2012, its 79 active priests and 102 permanent deacons have
 continued to play an integral role in the life of the community; and
 WHEREAS, Attending to the spiritual, physical, and
 educational needs of citizens regardless of their religious
 affiliation, the diocese supports four Catholic hospitals and
 eight centers for social services, and its seven Catholic schools
 work diligently to fully develop each student's moral,
 intellectual, social, and physical gifts; and
 WHEREAS, The Diocese of Tyler has contributed greatly to
 the fabric of life in the region, and it is fitting that it
 receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend the Diocese of Tyler on its commitment
 to serving others and extend to its clergy and parishioners best
 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the diocese as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
