SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 427
WHEREAS, A delegation of leaders from CHRISTUS Santa Rosa
Health System is gathering on March 24, 2015, to take part in the
institution's Advocacy Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System is a Catholic
institution that provides not-for-profit medical care to San
Antonio and the surrounding region; founded in 1869 by the Sisters
of Charity of the Incarnate Word, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa continues the
order's healing ministry through five full-service hospitals and a
number of specialty centers treating both adults and children; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to extend its reach to even more young
patients, the system is transforming its campus in the heart of
downtown San Antonio into a world-class, freestanding children's
hospital; the revamped facility will boast expanded programs,
services, and research capabilities, further enhancing CHRISTUS
Santa Rosa's reputation as a premier source of pediatric care; and
WHEREAS, This worthy new undertaking benefits from a
partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, one of the leading
medical schools in the United States; the college has pledged to
recruit more than 170 pediatric specialists to the Children's
Hospital of San Antonio to offer expertise in oncology,
cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, surgery, and other
disciplines; the first 10 members of Baylor's new pediatric
residency program based at the hospital are slated to begin their
training in July; and
WHEREAS, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System has long served
as a beacon of hope in the San Antonio community, and on this
special occasion, it is indeed fitting to honor the tireless
commitment of its administrators, physicians, and staff to
ensuring their patients the highest possible quality of care;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 84th Texas Legislature
hereby recognize March 24, 2015, as CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health
System Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm
welcome to members of the system's leadership team who are
visiting Austin today.
