| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | of Cameron County in paying tribute to Aurora De La Garza, who has |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | retired after more than 33 years of exemplary service as Cameron |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | County district clerk; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Aurora De La Garza was elected district clerk in 1980 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | after having served as a schoolteacher and as an assistant director |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | for the Cameron County Juvenile Probation Department; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her career as district clerk, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | she implemented a wide range of initiatives and programs that |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | have greatly benefited the people of Cameron County and our |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | state; she streamlined county procedures for filing civil cases |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and proposed a jury donation plan to her representatives and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | senator that was enacted into law by the Texas Legislature; her |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | passport program has raised more than $1.5 million in revenue for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the county; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, She has been active in numerous professional and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | civic organizations, including the Rotary Club, the Zonta Club, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the County and District Clerks' Association of Texas, and the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Mr. Amigo Association; her many awards include the Ohtli Award, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Hero of the Year award from the Niños Head Start program, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the title of District Clerk of the Year for the State of Texas; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, she is respected and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | admired by her colleagues and area citizens, and her presence as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | an employee of Cameron County is greatly missed; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Aurora De La Garza on her commitment |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to public service as Cameron County district clerk and extend to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | her best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
