SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 461
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Cameron County in paying tribute to Aurora De La Garza, who has
retired after more than 33 years of exemplary service as Cameron
County district clerk; and
WHEREAS, Aurora De La Garza was elected district clerk in 1980
after having served as a schoolteacher and as an assistant director
for the Cameron County Juvenile Probation Department; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of her career as district clerk,
she implemented a wide range of initiatives and programs that
have greatly benefited the people of Cameron County and our
state; she streamlined county procedures for filing civil cases
and proposed a jury donation plan to her representatives and
senator that was enacted into law by the Texas Legislature; her
passport program has raised more than $1.5 million in revenue for
the county; and
WHEREAS, She has been active in numerous professional and
civic organizations, including the Rotary Club, the Zonta Club,
the County and District Clerks' Association of Texas, and the
Mr. Amigo Association; her many awards include the Ohtli Award,
the Hero of the Year award from the Niños Head Start program, and
the title of District Clerk of the Year for the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, she is respected and
admired by her colleagues and area citizens, and her presence as
an employee of Cameron County is greatly missed; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend Aurora De La Garza on her commitment
to public service as Cameron County district clerk and extend to
her best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
