SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 467 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize United Pentecostal Church of Weches on the occasion of its 90th anniversary, which is being celebrated April 19, 2015; and WHEREAS, United Pentecostal Church of Weches traces its roots to a group of worshippers led by the Reverend Edwin Roark, who served as the church's pastor for more than 20 years; the congregation met outdoors, in tents, and at various locations for many years, until a permanent home for the church was found in 1950; and WHEREAS, Through the years, United Pentecostal Church of Weches has ministered to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless people; under the guidance and wise stewardship of its pastors, and with the leadership of its current pastor, the Reverend Richard Motes Jr., it has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the Weches community; and WHEREAS, The church has become an invaluable source of strength for church members in times of hardship and bereavement and a place of fellowship in times of abundance and celebration; and WHEREAS, The observance of its 90th anniversary is a reflection of the church's enduring commitment to providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the members and clergy of United Pentecostal Church of Weches on the joyous occasion of its 90th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
