| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, A 70th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of |

| 3 | 3 | | mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Roy and Lillian |

| 4 | 4 | | Burley of San Antonio are celebrating this joyous milestone in |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | their marriage on March 26, 2015; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Roy W. Burley and the former Lillian Snow met at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Prairie View A&M University, and they were joined in matrimony at |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Houston City Hall in 1945, just before Mr. Burley shipped out to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | serve in the United States Army during World War II; through the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | years, they have been blessed with four children, Roy W. Burley |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Jr., Ronald Burley, Nan Burley Richie, and the late Joan Burley |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | O'Neal, and with the passing years, their family has grown to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | include six grandchildren, Ron Blair Burley, Crystal Burley, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Juliet Burley, Michelle O'Neal, Leon O'Neal, and Ana Elizabeth |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Richie, and three great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Roy W. Burley was a member of Howard University's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | prestigious 2515th Army Service Unit, known as "the Prometheans," |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | during World War II, and he went on to serve in Korea and as a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | company commander in Vietnam; he was also stationed in the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Philippines, Germany, and Thailand and at many bases across the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | United States; he retired from the military with the rank of colonel |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and went on to serve as director of personnel for the USAA Insurance |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Company, as director of the Bexar County Opportunity Industrial |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Centers, and as chief of staff for State Representatives Lou Nelle |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Sutton and G. J. Sutton; he has also worked as a political |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | consultant; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Burley studied dance at Teachers College, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Columbia University, in New York City, and in addition to raising |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | her family, she has worked outside the home as a classroom |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | teacher and as a ballroom dance instructor; she and her husband |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | are both longtime members of Saint Paul United Methodist Church |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Colonel and Mrs. Burley have enjoyed seven |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | decades of abiding love and affection for each other, and they |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | are among an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | a lasting commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Roy and Lillian Burley on their |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 70th wedding anniversary and extend to them best wishes for |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | continued happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the a copy of this Resolution be prepared |
