| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of McAllen in mourning the loss of Margaret Louise Cawood, who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | died January 4, 2015, at the age of 82; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Louise Berens was born July 2, 1932, to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Leroy and Mary Berens; she grew up in the foothills of the Rocky |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Mountains near Denver and attended the University of Denver and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, and she graduated with |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | honors in 1954; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She served the nation with distinction in the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | United States Air Force Nursing Corps and rose to the rank of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | first lieutenant; during her military service, she met Jack |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Cawood, and the couple married in 1957; they raised three |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | children together, David, Mary Ann, and Paul, and were blessed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with several grandchildren and a great-grandson; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, She was active in the lives of her children and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | her community; she served as director of the oral history program |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of the Commemorative Air Force and helped preserve the air combat |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | stories of veterans of World War II and the Korean War; she also |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | served as president of the Rio Grande Valley Woodcarvers; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | family of Margaret Louise Cawood; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | memory of Margaret Louise Cawood. |
