SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 48 In Memory of Margaret Louise Cawood WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of Margaret Louise Cawood, who died January 4, 2015, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, Margaret Louise Berens was born July 2, 1932, to Leroy and Mary Berens; she grew up in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Denver and attended the University of Denver and Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, and she graduated with honors in 1954; and WHEREAS, She served the nation with distinction in the United States Air Force Nursing Corps and rose to the rank of first lieutenant; during her military service, she met Jack Cawood, and the couple married in 1957; they raised three children together, David, Mary Ann, and Paul, and were blessed with several grandchildren and a great-grandson; and WHEREAS, She was active in the lives of her children and her community; she served as director of the oral history program of the Commemorative Air Force and helped preserve the air combat stories of veterans of World War II and the Korean War; she also served as president of the Rio Grande Valley Woodcarvers; and WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Margaret Louise Cawood; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret Louise Cawood.
