SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 487
WHEREAS, The Bexar County Junior Livestock Show BBQ Cook-off
is taking place on April 24 and 25, 2015, in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, Sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers
Association, the cook-off serves as a showcase for Texas-style
cuisine as entrants vie to produce the tastiest brisket, pork spare
ribs, and chicken, as well as other meats and side dishes; cash
prizes are awarded to the top-finishing pit masters, and attendees
can also enjoy live music, a car show, auctions, and arts and
crafts; and
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the event benefit the Build a Barn
and Scholarship Fund administered by the Bexar County Junior
Livestock Show, a nonprofit organization committed to youth
development; for more than 50 years, the group's volunteers have
promoted education in the agricultural sciences by sponsoring
livestock programs, livestock and land judging activities, and
projects related to agricultural mechanics and food and
nutrition; these dedicated individuals also devote numerous
hours to raising scholarship funds to benefit young Texans who
have demonstrated outstanding community service and enthusiasm
for agricultural studies; and
WHEREAS, The Bexar County Junior Livestock Show is
providing participants with opportunities to learn lifelong
skills and values, and special recognition is owed to the men and
women who have worked tirelessly to ensure its success; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby honor the Bexar County Junior Livestock Show
and its annual barbecue cook-off event and commend all those
associated with the group for their immeasurable contributions to
the community and to the young people of Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard
from the Texas Senate.
