| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | recognize David Mitzner on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, David Mitzner was born April 11, 1915, into a |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Jewish family in Warsaw; he grew up in the newly independent |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Poland, but when German and Soviet armies invaded in 1939 at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | onset of World War II, he was cut off from his family; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Undaunted by events, he established a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | cross-border business operation to provide for his family in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Warsaw; during the course of the war, his mother and sister were |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | killed in the Holocaust, and he was imprisoned for eight years in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Soviet Gulag, where his brother and father were killed; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mitzner fled Communist-controlled Eastern |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Europe in 1949 and arrived in New York with only $17 in his |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | pocket; through perseverance and hard work, he rebuilt his family |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in the United States and became a successful textile |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | manufacturer; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, He moved to Houston in 1980 and founded RIDA |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Development Corporation, a commercial real estate firm that has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | helped to create thousands of jobs through the development of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | numerous office buildings, shopping centers, and major |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | convention hotels; he has been featured on the front page of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Wall Street Journal and is the recipient of the Polish Medal of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Honor; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, David Mitzner has lived through extraordinary |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | times and experienced events that most people only know through |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | history books, and his courage in the face of great hardship and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | adversity exemplifies the indomitability of the human spirit; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend David Mitzner on his many |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | achievements and extend to him best wishes for a joyous 100th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | birthday celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
