| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | January 4, 2014, at the age of 90; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Tencha Sloss was an exemplary citizen who was |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | widely admired in her community for her volunteer efforts in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | public schools and her leadership in the local arts scene; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Brownsville, Mrs. Sloss |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | worked as a reporter for the Brownsville Herald as a young woman; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | her passion in life was art and art expression, and she was active |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in local Democratic Party politics; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Her work with the arts community included serving |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | for many years as a volunteer with the Brownsville Art League and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | as the administrative director of the Brownsville Museum of Fine |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Art; she served as a CARE partner for more than a decade at |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Clearwater and Ortiz Elementary Schools; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, She was the matriarch of her large and loving |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | extended family, and her wisdom, her compassion for others, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | forgotten; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | family of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | memory of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss. |
