SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 543 In Memory of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss, who died January 4, 2014, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, Tencha Sloss was an exemplary citizen who was widely admired in her community for her volunteer efforts in the public schools and her leadership in the local arts scene; and WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Brownsville, Mrs. Sloss worked as a reporter for the Brownsville Herald as a young woman; her passion in life was art and art expression, and she was active in local Democratic Party politics; and WHEREAS, Her work with the arts community included serving for many years as a volunteer with the Brownsville Art League and as the administrative director of the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art; she served as a CARE partner for more than a decade at Clearwater and Ortiz Elementary Schools; and WHEREAS, She was the matriarch of her large and loving extended family, and her wisdom, her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hortencia Hinojosa Sloss.
