SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 547 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Fulshear are gathering in Austin to celebrate Fulshear Day at the State Capitol on April 13, 2015; and WHEREAS, Situated in northwestern Fort Bend County, Fulshear began as a small farming community that grew up in the 1820s around the cotton gin and flour mill of the plantation of Churchill Fulshear, one of Stephen F. Austin's original Old Three Hundred settlers; and WHEREAS, In 1888, the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad moved into the area, and in 1890, the town of Fulshear was laid out; that same year, the town received a post office, and three years later, a school district was established; for many years, it was a marketing center for local agricultural products such as rice, cotton, soybeans, pecans, and cattle; and WHEREAS, Today, Fulshear is drawing many new residents who are attracted by its small-town charm and proximity to the urban amenities of Houston; the population of the city is booming, and it is one of the fastest-growing communities in Fort Bend County; to prepare for continued expansion, the city is upgrading its streets and roads to accommodate a number of proposed master-planned developments while also working to attract premier retailers to the area; and WHEREAS, Proud of their relaxed and comfortable lifestyle and friendly business environment, the residents of Fulshear continue to honor their rich history as they look forward to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby recognize April 13, 2015, as Fulshear Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and informative stay in Austin.
