SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 559 In Memory of Don Bigbie WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Don Bigbie, who died April 9, 2015, at the age of 70; and WHEREAS, Don Bigbie was born on January 4, 1945, in Bowie, to John and Viola Bigbie; he met his wife, Penny, while attending Texas State University; they raised two daughters, Ashley and Lindsey, and were blessed with five grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bigbie worked for many years with Braniff Airlines, rising to the position of director of International Sales; he later founded his own tourism company to promote Texas and tourism internationally; and WHEREAS, After his retirement, he established Cross Timbers Winery, which has won numerous state, national, and international awards; he was active in a variety of community organizations in Grapevine; he served for 20 years as chair of the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau, and he served as president of the Grapevine Ambucs; and WHEREAS, He was a man of courage and vision who gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Don Bigbie; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don Bigbie.
