SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 567
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the citizens of Millsap in celebrating the dedication of
Millsap United Methodist Church as a Recorded Texas Historic
Landmark on April 26, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Millsap United Methodist Church traces its roots
to a congregation that formed in 1875, five years before Millsap
became an established town; the name of the church changed
several times through the years, however, the church continuously
supported the national and international programs of the
Methodist religion; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the Reverend G. M. Cloud,
the current church building was erected in 1924; the brick
structure was built in the shape of a cross in a style known as
cruciform architecture; due to the historical significance of
the building, the church received approval for a Recorded Texas
Historic Landmark designation in 2014; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Millsap United Methodist
Church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life
of the Millsap community, and it is truly fitting that the church
receive recognition for its commitment to preserving its history
and its longtime service to the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend the clergy and congregation of
Millsap United Methodist Church and extend to all best wishes for
a memorable Recorded Texas Historic Landmark dedication
ceremony; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
