| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. W. David Watts, who has been named the recipient of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the 2014 Citizen of the Year Award by the Odessa Chamber of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Commerce; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Watts is president of The University of Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of the Permian Basin; a native Texan and graduate of The |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | University of Texas at Austin, he earned a master's degree and a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | doctoral degree in sociology from the State University of New |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | York in Buffalo; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He became president of The University of Texas of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Permian Basin in 2001 after having served as vice president |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for academic and student affairs at Jacksonville State University |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in Alabama; his prior experience also included serving as a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | department chair and faculty member at Southwest Texas State |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | University and as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Southeastern Louisiana University; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, His extensive research and publications on |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | sociological issues related to drug and alcohol abuse prevention |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and treatment have had a profound impact on the lives of many; his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | work supporting educational issues has included service on |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | numerous statewide task forces and committees; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Watts has had a significant impact on his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | community and his profession, and it is truly fitting that he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | receive special recognition for his outstanding achievements; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. W. David Watts on his many |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | contributions to The University of Texas of the Permian Basin and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the citizens of this state and extend congratulations to him on |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | receiving the 2014 Citizen of the Year Award from the Odessa |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Chamber of Commerce; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
