| 3 | 3 | | Purpose are visiting the State Capitol on April 28, 2015; and |

| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Established for eighth graders at Howard Junior |

| 5 | 5 | | High School in Waxahachie, Howard Students with Purpose includes |

| 6 | 6 | | approximately 350 participants; the program is designed to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | promote good character and mature behavior while encouraging |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | academic achievement and fostering positive relationships among |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | classmates; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Students in the program discover the benefits of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | setting and meeting goals, and they can earn opportunities for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | education and cultural experiences outside the classroom; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | moreover, they learn to network with others outside of their |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | familiar groups; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In order to take part in such activities as the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | trip to Austin, members of the group have engaged in fund-raising |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and organizational efforts; this event will allow them to tour |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | The University of Texas campus, meet with college students from |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | their hometown, and gain firsthand insights into how state |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | government works; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The members of Howard Students with Purpose are |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | working diligently to make the most of their eighth-grade year, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and in so doing, they are preparing themselves to excel in high |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | school, higher education, and future careers; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of Howard Students with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Purpose on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success. |
