| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Raymondville in mourning the loss of Judge Eustolio |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Gonzales, who died November 9, 2014, at the age of 86; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Raymondville, Tolo Gonzales |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was guided by a deep love for his country and his community; he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | served his country with distinction in the United States Marine |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Corps during the Korean War, and he gained the respect and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | admiration of many as an educator and public servant; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales taught in the Raymondville |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Independent School District for 20 years, 15 of which were |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | dedicated to the Migrant Program; he shared his expertise on |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | migrant education with school districts in Texas, Wisconsin, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Illinois, and Indiana as a lecturer and a consultant; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A Democratic Party leader, he served as campaign |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | chair and coordinator for such Texas legends as Lloyd Bentsen, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Ann Richards, and Bob Krueger; he was the first elected Hispanic |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to serve as judge of Willacy County, and he was the first Hispanic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | mayor of Raymondville; he was a founder of Amigos Del Valle, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | he served on numerous local and state boards; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Tolo Gonzales was a loving husband, father, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | grandfather, and great-grandfather; he was beloved by many, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | family of Judge Eustolio Gonzales; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | memory of Eustolio Gonzales. |
