1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 612
2	2	WHEREAS, Members of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas
3	3	are celebrating the 29th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and
4	4	WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas began in
5	5	1986 when several notable women came together to discuss the need
6	6	for a statewide organization to address the specific needs of
7	7	Hispanic women; a conference was held in Dallas in 1987, with 200
8	8	women from diverse backgrounds and occupations uniting to focus
9	9	attention on common issues; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Members of the network endeavor to cultivate the
11	11	social, cultural, legal, and educational interests of Hispanic
12	12	women; the group has sponsored such events as the Women's Right
13	13	to Vote Celebration and the Hispanic Summit and Emerging Leaders
14	14	Conference, and a number of chapters participate in the Latinas
15	15	in Progress program; and
16	16	WHEREAS, The network is composed of chapters in Austin,
17	17	Corpus Christi, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, the
18	18	Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and South Texas, as well as a
19	19	student chapter at The University of Texas in Austin; each unit
20	20	strives to celebrate and foster the positive image and values of
21	21	Hispanic culture across the state; and
22	22	WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas has
23	23	demonstrated a lasting commitment to the well-being and
24	24	advancement of Hispanic women in the Lone Star State, and its
25	25	members are indeed deserving of special recognition for their
26	26	achievements; now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
28	28	Legislature, hereby commemorate the 29th anniversary of the
29	29	Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and extend to the
30	30	organization's members sincere best wishes for the future; and,
31	31	be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
33	33	prepared for the network as an expression of high regard from the
34	34	Texas Senate.
