SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 612 WHEREAS, Members of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas are celebrating the 29th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas began in 1986 when several notable women came together to discuss the need for a statewide organization to address the specific needs of Hispanic women; a conference was held in Dallas in 1987, with 200 women from diverse backgrounds and occupations uniting to focus attention on common issues; and WHEREAS, Members of the network endeavor to cultivate the social, cultural, legal, and educational interests of Hispanic women; the group has sponsored such events as the Women's Right to Vote Celebration and the Hispanic Summit and Emerging Leaders Conference, and a number of chapters participate in the Latinas in Progress program; and WHEREAS, The network is composed of chapters in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and South Texas, as well as a student chapter at The University of Texas in Austin; each unit strives to celebrate and foster the positive image and values of Hispanic culture across the state; and WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas has demonstrated a lasting commitment to the well-being and advancement of Hispanic women in the Lone Star State, and its members are indeed deserving of special recognition for their achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commemorate the 29th anniversary of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and extend to the organization's members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the network as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
