1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 639
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Dr. Richard August Chiarello, a beloved Arlington
4	4	pediatrician who is retiring after a distinguished medical
5	5	career of almost 40 years; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello is a 1971 graduate of Georgetown
7	7	University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and he began
8	8	his career in the field of pediatrics by completing his
9	9	internship and residency at Children's Medical Center of Dallas;
10	10	he then served as chief of pediatrics for two years in a clinic
11	11	associated with Noble Army Hospital at Fort McClellan in
12	12	Anniston, Alabama; he opened his private practice in Arlington,
13	13	Texas, in 1976; and
14	14	WHEREAS, During these years, Dr. Chiarello served as chief
15	15	of pediatrics twice at both Arlington Memorial Hospital and the
16	16	Medical Center of Arlington, and he served as president of the
17	17	Arlington Pediatric Society in 2011; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello is known for his attention to both
19	19	the medical and psychosocial aspects of patient care, including
20	20	sharing jokes and riddles with his young patients to put them at
21	21	ease as well as working with social service agencies to support
22	22	children and their families with as complete a care approach as
23	23	possible; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has chosen to treat, as a
25	25	significant portion of his practice, an economically diverse
26	26	population that is often underserved by the medical community;
27	27	and
28	28	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has helped protect vulnerable
29	29	children on a pro bono basis by assisting in the prosecution of
30	30	victims of child sexual assault; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has contributed greatly to the arts
32	32	in Arlington; he has supported the Creative Arts Theater and
33	33	School as president of the board and as an actor in many shows,
34	34	and he has acted in several Theatre Arlington productions and
35	35	earned a Best Actor in a Supporting Role award as Mr. Brownlow in
36	36	Oliver; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has been recognized by his peers and
38	38	his community as an All Star Family Doctor in 2014 in Arlington
39	39	Today, and he was named as one of the top pediatricians in Tarrant
40	40	County by Fort Worth, Texas magazine; and
41	41	WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has done all this while being a
42	42	devoted husband to Barbara, father to Katherine, Stephanie, and
43	43	Elizabeth, and grandfather to Olivia; he is truly deserving of
44	44	special recognition for his outstanding achievements; now,
45	45	therefore, be it
46	46	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
47	47	Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Richard Chiarello on his many
48	48	contributions to his profession and his community and extend to
49	49	him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors,
50	50	including his retirement in Austin, Texas; and, be it further
51	51	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
52	52	him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
