SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 639 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Richard August Chiarello, a beloved Arlington pediatrician who is retiring after a distinguished medical career of almost 40 years; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello is a 1971 graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and he began his career in the field of pediatrics by completing his internship and residency at Children's Medical Center of Dallas; he then served as chief of pediatrics for two years in a clinic associated with Noble Army Hospital at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama; he opened his private practice in Arlington, Texas, in 1976; and WHEREAS, During these years, Dr. Chiarello served as chief of pediatrics twice at both Arlington Memorial Hospital and the Medical Center of Arlington, and he served as president of the Arlington Pediatric Society in 2011; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello is known for his attention to both the medical and psychosocial aspects of patient care, including sharing jokes and riddles with his young patients to put them at ease as well as working with social service agencies to support children and their families with as complete a care approach as possible; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has chosen to treat, as a significant portion of his practice, an economically diverse population that is often underserved by the medical community; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has helped protect vulnerable children on a pro bono basis by assisting in the prosecution of victims of child sexual assault; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has contributed greatly to the arts in Arlington; he has supported the Creative Arts Theater and School as president of the board and as an actor in many shows, and he has acted in several Theatre Arlington productions and earned a Best Actor in a Supporting Role award as Mr. Brownlow in Oliver; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has been recognized by his peers and his community as an All Star Family Doctor in 2014 in Arlington Today, and he was named as one of the top pediatricians in Tarrant County by Fort Worth, Texas magazine; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chiarello has done all this while being a devoted husband to Barbara, father to Katherine, Stephanie, and Elizabeth, and grandfather to Olivia; he is truly deserving of special recognition for his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Richard Chiarello on his many contributions to his profession and his community and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors, including his retirement in Austin, Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
