| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Sergeant Major Alyssa Marie Michalke, who is assuming formal |

| 4 | 4 | | command of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets on May 9, 2015; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This pioneering cadet is the first woman in the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Corps of Cadets to attain the rank of sergeant major, the highest |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | rank for any cadet who is not a senior, and she will assume her |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | new post as the first female corps commander in the school's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 139-year history; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, During her three years with the corps, Sergeant |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Major Michalke has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and a selfless work ethic; she has been chosen to guide more than |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 2,400 unit members, the largest Texas A&M Corps in 45 years; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, She has been recognized as a Distinguished |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Student at the university, where she serves in numerous corps and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | volunteer organizations; she is also a member of several academic |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | societies, including the National Honor Society for Chemical |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Engineering and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Engineers; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Michalke is an exemplary young |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | woman who is respected and admired by her peers, and she is indeed |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | deserving of recognition for her outstanding achievements; now, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Major Alyssa Marie Michalke |

| 26 | 26 | | on her exceptional accomplishments and congratulate her on her |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | selection as the first woman to serve as commander of the Texas |
