55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
66 of Anahuac in mourning the loss of David Allen "Bubba" Abernathy,
77 who died April 17, 2015, at the age of 70; and
88 WHEREAS, David Abernathy was born October 17, 1944, in Alvin,
99 to David and Pauline Abernathy; he married the love of his life,
1010 Mary Annette Willcox, on September 19, 1964, and the couple
1111 enjoyed 50 years of marriage together; they raised two children
1212 and were blessed with seven grandchildren; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Abernathy served the nation with distinction
1414 for eight years in the United States Air Force; he was trained in
1515 radar and electronics, and his service included a tour of duty in
1616 Vietnam; and
1717 WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Abernathy returned
1818 with his family to Anahuac, where he and his wife owned and operated
1919 Abernathy's Meat Market for more than 25 years and Abernathy's
2020 Home Center for 10 years; and
2121 WHEREAS, He served as Precinct 2 commissioner for Chambers
2222 County for six years; his many contributions to the community
2323 also included work with the Anahuac Little League, the Anahuac
2424 Optimist Club, the Lions Club, and the American Legion, and he was
2525 the founder of the Chambers County Youth Project Show 100 Club; and
2626 WHEREAS, Mr. Abernathy was devoted to his family; he took
2727 special care in mentoring his children and grandchildren, and he
2828 delighted in the regular family reunions that he and his wife
2929 held for more than 30 years; and
3030 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave
3131 generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
3232 will not be forgotten; and
3333 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
3434 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
3535 his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3737 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3838 family of David Allen Abernathy; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
4040 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate
4141 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
4242 David Allen "Bubba" Abernathy.
