| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of Anahuac in mourning the loss of David Allen "Bubba" Abernathy, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who died April 17, 2015, at the age of 70; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, David Abernathy was born October 17, 1944, in Alvin, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to David and Pauline Abernathy; he married the love of his life, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Mary Annette Willcox, on September 19, 1964, and the couple |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | enjoyed 50 years of marriage together; they raised two children |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and were blessed with seven grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Abernathy served the nation with distinction |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for eight years in the United States Air Force; he was trained in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | radar and electronics, and his service included a tour of duty in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Vietnam; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Abernathy returned |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with his family to Anahuac, where he and his wife owned and operated |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Abernathy's Meat Market for more than 25 years and Abernathy's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Home Center for 10 years; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, He served as Precinct 2 commissioner for Chambers |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | County for six years; his many contributions to the community |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | also included work with the Anahuac Little League, the Anahuac |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Optimist Club, the Lions Club, and the American Legion, and he was |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the founder of the Chambers County Youth Project Show 100 Club; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Abernathy was devoted to his family; he took |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | special care in mentoring his children and grandchildren, and he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | delighted in the regular family reunions that he and his wife |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | held for more than 30 years; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | will not be forgotten; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | family of David Allen Abernathy; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | David Allen "Bubba" Abernathy. |
